What is the IB Primary Years Programme

The IB PYP is an engaging, child-centred curriculum for children ages 3-6 years that empowers children to become independent lifelong learners. The transdisciplinary framework allows children to learn various topics across subject areas, rather than solely memorising facts or topics in isolation. As children expand their skills and knowledge, they can apply them in real-world contexts.

The IB PYP at Redwood Center of Excellence supports the whole child, nurturing their academic, social and emotional development. This comprehensive framework focuses on international-mindedness and universal values along with key characteristics of dynamic citizens and leaders

The IB PYP consists of 5 crucial elements that children need for lifelong learning and success in 21st century society: Skills, Knowledge, Concepts Attitudes & Actions

You will be informed about every step in their journey. Your child’s education is setting them up for life. Maintaining regular communication allows parents and teachers to educate together, giving the children consistent learning in school & home.

Our parents often tell us about rushing to the phone each day eager to read the update and view the photos. This is the service we promise and we continue to innovate to provide even more.

Healthy & Quality Food
Planned Meals To Develop Good Habits
Our specially designed meal plans support focus and learning. The children eat together, learning from one another to be interested in food and supporting good eating habits.

We all know quality food is essential for growth, and being curious about food is equally important. Children are taught to be willing to experience and be excited about trying new things.

We take a holistic and scientific approach to developing young minds, and in the kitchen this is equally important.

Extended Learning Hours Until 6pm
We encourage busy parents to use our afterschool care program, allowing your child to be advancing their development all day, until you are ready to collect them afterwork at 6pm.

The child’s mind is developing over 1 million new neurons every hour. For this reason it’s recommended their minds are continually stimulated to maximise this learning.

It’s no wonder our children are regularly admitted to the best schools. Our team works tirelessly to ensure they are continually learning and adventuring, setting them up for a lifetime of success.

A Specialised Approach To Every Stage Of Development
Redwood Center of Excellence Nursery is set up to ensure your child gets the optimal guidance at each stage of development, using the science of how children develop a well-rounded mind. Simply put, they’ll be learning and growing into their full potential and laying the foundations for future success.

Children at our nurseries learn both academic and vital social skills. Below we’ll walk through how our approach changes at new stage of development.

First Steps Into A Bigger World
The importance of a child’s first experiences outside home can’t be overestimated. This is when babies form their first impression of the world that shapes them for life.

Our early learning practitioners provide the best care and encouragement for your baby. You can go about your day reassured that your child is being cared for in the same way you would care for them at home.

Growing In Confidence
“A child’s brain grows to 80% of the size of an adults by age 3” Harvard, 2022. These early years are critical, ensuring they soak up new stimulus.

There is a vital time when toddlers become very interested in their environment. This is when they establish whether the outside world is ‘safe’ or not.

At the Center of Excellence, toddlers learn to explore in an environment where everything is at their scale and safe for them to touch. This helps your child grow in independence and confidence.

  • Learn to crawl, stand and walk
  • Interact with other toddlers in a safe & fun environment
  • Develop verbal skills: native English, French & classical Arabic
  • Modelling of responsibility & respect

Interaction With The Real World
Young children naturally reach out for interaction through babbling, facial expressions, and gestures, and adults respond with the same kind of vocalizing and gesturing back at them. This back-and-forth process is fundamental to the wiring of the brain, especially in the earliest years.`` Harvard, 2022

Children at this age are eager to engage in real-life situations, routines, and rituals. Through positive interactions with our early learning practitioners, we help our children understand the “what,” “why” and “how” of the world around them. As a result, their sensory development develops much faster.

  • Show first signs of emotional intelligence & empathy
  • Able to use basic logic & problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on activities to build sensory development
  • Cultivate self-esteem

Resilience & Getting Ready For School
“This is the age where your child’s brain fine tunes itself” (Harvard, 2022). Primary senses like touch, vision & motor skills are nearly fully developed. This is where we seed children with a lifelong love of knowledge and confidence in their ability to learn.

Our approach for this age includes reading, writing, creative play, and cooperation. Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace, which builds their independence & resilience.

  • Learn emotional intelligence & life skills
  • Tools for cooperation & problem solving
  • Development of math, reading & writing

Parent Guidance To Maximise Learning
The relationship between teachers and parents is critical in the first 6 years of your child’s life. At this time they are learning more than at any other.
At the Center of Excellence, we work with parents as our partners in educational excellence. The communication flows both ways, helping us to work as a team to give your child the best education possible.

Parents are encouraged to share their child’s observations and to look at their child’s portfolio as parental involvement is beneficial to children’s learning and development of self-esteem.
